The Chadron State College softball team broke in its new field and facilities Sunday, Oct. 6, 2006 with a dedication ceremony and two exhibition games.

Chadron State President Janie Park threw out the ceremonial first pitch after commenting about the facility’s aesthetics and thanking those who helped make the new field a reality.

College personnel estimate that as many as 500 people came through the gates to watch at least one of the games.

The field, at the southeast corner of the campus, features all new bleachers, fencing, press box, scoreboard, restrooms, concessions, dugouts, landscaping and a batting cage.

The event was attended by about a dozen former Chadron State softball players who school fielded a team between 1976 and 1982. The sport was discontinued because of budget cuts.
